Can you read that sign? It's an official historical marker located in front of the Jigger and Jug Liquor Store, Greenville, Mississippi. The sign says that in 1966, the first legal liquor store in Mississippi after Prohibition opened here. In shocking news, it also says that Mississippi was the last state to end Prohibition. What I like is that it was the first LEGAL liquor store in the state. It is owned by the Azar brothers, related to this guy, who used to play at little bars where I went to college.

The Saturday before last we ran errands in Greenville, doing important stuff like TAKING PHOTOS OF LIQUOR STORES. Seriously, we were productive. We picked out wedding bands and got a new refrigerator. We came home and and did this:
On the back porch, a tv for watching SEC games all afternoon and into the night. We had to have a radio for keeping up with games that weren't televised. Notice, too, the ever-present box of Kleenex. As recently as last weekend, I couldn't leave home - or a room - without them.
Even the laptop for live blogging.
The Fiancé grilled boudin and shrimp and asparagus. We had a great time even though ALL FIVE TEAMS we were cheering for (Mississippi State, University of Tennesse, University of Southern Mississippi, Ole Miss, AND Auburn) lost. Every last one.

The faded bumper sticker reads, "I'm proud to be a farmer." I love that, even though I'm afraid the sentiment is only that. Farming is going much the way of everything else: corporate, with a bigger is better mentality. Small farmers simply cannot make a living; it's mathematically impossible. Much the same way that locally owned five and dime stores can't compete with large discount stores.

Let's not end on a down note...so how about this tidbit - the other night at a soccer game, I had to don a jacket. OH YES I DID. That's how chilly it was. Woo hoo!

That brought back memories...when I went to Ole Miss, we used to go to Pet's One Stop at The Line! By the way, I went to Vanderbilt after my 2 years in Oxford. How 'bout those Commodores this year???
Sorry. Couldn't resist. Glad you are feeling better;)
I love your photos. You really do offer up the greatest flavors of the south.
Beautiful pictures of the old truck. I thought maybe that box of tissues was needed if your teams were loosing. :)
It was a great weekend just relaxing, so to speak...
love that last one
Thank you for those photos, they really are lovely. That bbq sounds delicious!
Oh, I miss the cotton from home in north Louisiana. The bayou too. I never realize it until I'm there or until I see a photo.
I had hopes that our fall was finally starting, but the weatherman says we'll be back in the 90s this weekend. Poo.
Great pics, Keetha! My poor Rebels will probably lose again tomorrow. LOL!
